About this project

Cedars‑Sinai’s Breast Health Services Building in West Hollywood is a thoughtfully renovated 36,000-square-foot facility that brings together comprehensive care for breast health under one roof. Repurposing a 1970s bank building, the three-story center features 15 exam rooms, diagnostic imaging suites, surgical consult spaces, and a boutique wig shop—all designed to support both clinical excellence and emotional well-being. The layout promotes seamless collaboration across specialties, offering patients access to genetic counseling, clinical trials, and coordinated care in a single location.

The design emphasizes comfort and tranquility, with curved corridors, soft neutral finishes, and museum-quality art contributing to a spa-like environment. Outdoor courtyards for patients and staff, complete with water features and greenery, buffer the urban setting and create a calming atmosphere. The building’s warm, welcoming aesthetic reflects Cedars‑Sinai’s commitment to human-centered healthcare—where innovation meets compassion, and architecture plays a role in healing.

Breast Health Exam Rooms

In 2017, Shield was tapped to manufacture 15 custom exam room casework installations at the new facility. The casework includes thermoformed corners to create a cohesive built-in effect, while still being prefabricated to minimize on-site time and construction debris. The elements were constructed in four separate sections then seams were covered with filler panels to complete the seamless aesthetic. Using acrylic solid surface allows for custom curved radii, as well as unmatched durability and cleanability that is unachievable with traditional millwork.

"Partnering with Shield helped us create a one-of-a-kind design for a very special client intensely focused on elevating the patient experience."
