About this project
For over six decades, North Kansas City Hospital has been serving the Northland by offering quality medical care to patients. Within the past few years, the hospital has expanded, bringing about a need to furnish spaces with casework, storage and patient room furniture that will last a lifetime.
Cardiac catheterization lab
In 2021, Shield was cited to create casework and storage for North Kansas City Hospital’s cath lab remodel. North Kansas City’s catheterization labs offer interventional cardiology as a minimally invasive option for diagnosing and treating heart conditions.
What was originally five cath lab suites, was slated to become four that would include a hybrid operating room. With this remodel, patients would have greater access to vital procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement and minimally invasive mitral valve repair that treats mitral regurgitation, the most common type of heart valve disease.
For the first phase of the remodel, we created adjustable shelf storage cabinets as well as catheter cabinets, catheter box storage and lazy susan catheter storage. Moving into the second phase, we created more storage and catheter cabinets, eventually furnishing all the labs to have a consistent look and feel.
Throughout the remodel, a major goal was to create spaces that were convenient for both patients and staff. The new build allowed for more procedures to take place and more equipment to be housed within the suites instead of having to be brought in from different locations. With the new suites having a focus on patient-forward care, it was a top priority to outfit the rooms with casework and storage that would help individuals feel more comfortable during their procedures by creating a healing-focused environment.
Cath lab storage can be difficult to get right. It needs to be durable and easily cleaned, while still being customizable and clinically functional. There’s no other product that meets those demands like Shield’s solid surface solution. Shield understand the needs of healthcare storage, and worked hard to give us a product that outperforms anything on the market.
