An innovative housing solution for local cities...

In January 2020, there were 580,466 people experiencing homelessness in America, according to endhomelessness.org. Because of this, we felt compelled to design DOME, in partnership with Perkins & Will, as a solution to the increased need for interim and emergency housing.

“For one of the wealthiest nations in the world, the U.S. continues to face a growing, socioeconomic gap in housing availability. Not only is DOME affordable, durable and mobile, it provides the ability to re-educate and re-establish the fundamentals of protected living for this underserved community.”

Features

  • Modular, Prefabricated Design - DOME was engineered to be a unitized system, allowing for easy setup, teardown, and transportation.  32 units fit in a standard 53-foot trailer.

  • Solid Surface Construction - durable, cleanable and microbial-resistant, solid surface provides substantial quality and long-term use.

  • Lockable Birch Plywood Wardrobe - sealed birch plywood adds stability and a residential aesthetic. The inclusion of a hasp allows for the unit to be locked, increasing safety and security.

  • XL Twin Bed - the bed frame is recessed into the partition, allowing for an XL twin bed, while still maintaining a small footprint for maximum unit volume per facility.

  • Power Outlet & Step Lighting - by connecting to power through a spline wall, the low-voltage power outlet allows residents to charge a device. Step lighting illuminates the aisle and reduces the need for overhead lighting.

  • Optional Fabric Canopy - the quick-release fabric canopy adds additional privacy.

“DOME is the solution for providing the protection our homeless population deserves. More importantly, it is restoring a sense of humanity and self-worth to individuals who have spent time without a roof over their heads. This will be a vital tool for local governments and municipalities looking to address this issue in their cities.”

—Lori Gorman, CEO, Shield Casework

With 150+ units currently heading to various sites across the country, recognition of the product has begun. We hope that word will continue to spread and our goal of changing the landscape of homelessness in America can be achieved.
